❓ Frequently Asked Questions – Nepal Watercolour Adventure

πŸ₯Ύ Is this a trekking tour?

No. This is a watercolour painting holiday, not a trekking tour. The itinerary has been designed around comfortable access to painting locations in Kathmandu, Nagarkot and Pokhara, with organised transport provided as part of the package. There are no hikes or trekking days included in the scheduled itinerary.

🚢 How much walking is involved?

Most painting locations will involve only short-distance walking from the vehicle drop-off point to the selected painting area. Participants should, however, be comfortable with normal sightseeing-style walking. Some historic areas may have uneven paving, steps, courtyards or slightly sloping paths. The intention is always to select practical painting locations that allow participants to settle comfortably and spend time painting rather than walking long distances.

πŸ§“ Is the tour suitable for mature travellers?

Yes. The itinerary is being designed with a comfortable and relaxed pace in mind. There is no trekking requirement, and transport will be used between the major destinations and scheduled painting locations. Participants should nevertheless be independently mobile and comfortable with short walks, occasional steps and uneven surfaces commonly found around historic sites.

β™Ώ What if I have limited mobility?

If you have mobility concerns, please contact Painting Holiday Tours before booking. We will be happy to discuss the itinerary with you and provide further information about the expected walking and accessibility at individual locations.

πŸ”οΈ Do we need to worry about high-altitude trekking?

No high-altitude trekking is included in this tour. We will enjoy spectacular Himalayan scenery from accessible locations such as Nagarkot and Sarangkot without undertaking a mountain trek.

πŸŒ… Are the sunrise painting sessions compulsory?

No. Sunrise sessions at locations such as Nagarkot and Sarangkot are special opportunities included in the itinerary, but participants who prefer not to take part in an early-morning session may choose to rest instead. The itinerary includes time to relax following the early starts so that the overall journey remains comfortable and enjoyable.

🎨 What level of painting experience do I need?

The workshop is suitable for artists with a range of experience, from enthusiastic beginners through to experienced painters. Jacky Pearson will provide demonstrations, individual guidance and practical assistance throughout the workshop, allowing participants to work at their own level and pace.

πŸ–ŒοΈ Do I need to paint every day?

No. While the itinerary offers an extensive painting program, this is also a holiday. Participants are welcome to take a break from a particular session if they would prefer to relax, explore or simply enjoy the surroundings.

πŸ–ΌοΈ What types of subjects will we paint?

Nepal offers an exceptional variety of watercolour subjects, including:
  • πŸ›οΈ Historic temples and traditional Newari architecture
  • πŸ™ Buddhist stupas, prayer flags and cultural scenes
  • 🏘️ Traditional streets, courtyards and local life
  • πŸ”οΈ Himalayan mountain landscapes
  • πŸŒ… Sunrise and changing mountain light
  • 🌊 Lakes, reflections and traditional boats
  • 🌳 Rural landscapes and village scenery

πŸ‘« Can my partner come if they do not paint?

Absolutely. Non-painting partners are very welcome. They can enjoy the accommodation, destinations, cultural experiences, scheduled transport and included meals while their partner participates in the painting sessions. 🌟 Non-painting partners receive an AU$500 discount when sharing accommodation with a full-package painting participant.

🏨 What standard of accommodation is included?

The package includes 12 nights in quality 4–5 star accommodation across Kathmandu, Nagarkot and Pokhara. We aim to select comfortable hotels that provide a good base for the painting program while also allowing participants to relax at the end of each day.

✈️ How will we travel between Kathmandu, Nagarkot and Pokhara?

Transport between the scheduled tour destinations will be organised as part of the package. Final transport arrangements will be selected with consideration for comfort, practicality and the overall itinerary. Detailed transfer information will be provided to participants before departure.

πŸ›¬ Are airport transfers included?

Scheduled arrival and departure transfers between Kathmandu International Airport and the tour hotel are included as part of the full package. Participants will be asked to provide their international flight details before the tour so that transfer arrangements can be coordinated.

🍽️ Which meals are included?

The full package includes:
  • βœ… Daily breakfast
  • βœ… Welcome dinner
  • βœ… Farewell dinner
Other lunches and dinners will generally allow participants the flexibility to choose meals according to their own preferences unless specifically advised otherwise in the final itinerary.

πŸŽ’ Do I need to carry my painting equipment far?

The itinerary is designed to avoid unnecessary long-distance walking with painting equipment. Participants should bring a compact and practical plein-air painting kit that they can comfortably carry for short distances. Jacky will provide a recommended materials list before the workshop.

🧳 What should I bring for painting?

Participants will need to bring their own watercolour materials and suitable portable equipment. A detailed materials list will be provided before departure. We recommend travelling with a lightweight painting setup suitable for working outdoors and moving between locations.

🌦️ What happens if the weather is unsuitable for outdoor painting?

As with any outdoor painting holiday, the program may be adjusted to suit weather and local conditions. Jacky and Painting Holiday Tours may change the timing or painting location where necessary to provide the best practical experience for the group.

πŸ“… Is there any free time during the tour?

Yes. The itinerary has intentionally been designed with a comfortable pace and includes opportunities to relax, explore independently and enjoy the destinations. Day 10 in Pokhara is planned as a flexible painting and exploration day, allowing participants to revisit a favourite location, paint independently, explore or simply take some time to relax.

πŸ›οΈ Will there be time for sightseeing and shopping?

Yes. Although painting is the main focus of the journey, participants will also experience Nepal's historic areas, cultural sites and local communities as part of the itinerary. There will also be opportunities for independent exploring and shopping, particularly in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

🌏 Can I arrive in Nepal before the workshop?

Yes. Participants are very welcome to arrive earlier if they would like additional time to recover from their international flight or explore Kathmandu before the workshop begins. Painting Holiday Tours can assist with arranging additional accommodation and other travel services. An individual quotation can be provided based on your preferred dates and requirements.

✈️ Can I stay longer in Nepal after the workshop?

Absolutely. Nepal has many other wonderful destinations, and some participants may wish to extend their holiday after the painting workshop. We can assist with additional accommodation, private transport and customised extensions and provide an individual quotation based on your interests, available time and preferred travel style.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Can you help arrange visits to other parts of Nepal?

Yes. If you would like to explore more of Nepal before or after the workshop, please let us know. Depending on your interests, additional travel may be arranged to other destinations on an individual basis. We can discuss your preferred experience and provide a personalised quotation for additional accommodation, transport and sightseeing arrangements.

πŸ‘₯ Do I have to join an extension if other participants are staying longer?

No. Any pre-tour or post-tour extension is entirely optional and separate from the main 13-day Nepal Watercolour Adventure. Participants can extend their stay according to their own interests, travel dates and budget.

🌍 Do I need travel insurance?

Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended. Your policy should be suitable for your personal circumstances and intended travel activities, including international travel, medical expenses, cancellation and personal belongings.

πŸ›‚ Do I need a visa for Nepal?

Visa and entry requirements depend on your nationality and can change. Participants are responsible for ensuring that they hold the appropriate passport, visa and travel documents required to enter Nepal. We recommend checking the relevant official travel and immigration requirements well before departure.

πŸ‘₯ Will this be a large group?

No. Painting Holiday Tours focuses on small-group (12-14 max) painting experiences so participants can receive meaningful guidance from Jacky and enjoy a friendly and supportive group environment.

πŸ“ž What if I have a question before booking?

We are happy to discuss the tour with you before you make your booking, particularly if you have questions about walking requirements, accommodation, non-painting partners, extending your stay or any other aspect of the journey.
